Audio Books – A Better Way To Know This World

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Friday, September 3, 2010

An audio book is a recording that is principally of the verbal words. It is often based on a recording of viably available materials on paper. However, this is not always the case, nor is this necessary to fit the meaning of an audio book. These books were not projected to be a book but it is an audio version of a book. Such books are mainly good for car rides and for people who face problems in reading or do not like to read. However, these books are also very useful for the blind people.

In the decade of 1980, major efforts have been made to attract the book merchants. With the entrance of various renowned publishers, these books become the part of every bookstore. The books mainly hold the context of a regular book but in an audible format. Various media types such as Cassettes and CDs are being used to record or store these books. These audio books could be of great advantage to the blind or illiterate people.

In the year 1931, a radio program was established by the Congress. This program was meant to help the blind adults. This program was known as Books for the Adult Blind Project. In the year 1932, The American Foundation for Blinds developed the foremost talking books. Mr. J.P. Harrington, an anthropologist, has contributed a lot in making such books a great success.

These books were mainly developed for the blind persons. However with the regular development in this field, these books are now also treated as the learning material for the people suffering from mental problems such as dyslexia. These spoken books also arrived as totally dramatised editions of the printed books. These dramatised spoken books sometimes called upon a complete cast, music and sound effects to entertain their audiences. Considering this stream of these books, Audie Awards are being given away every year during spring. These awards are given in several categories.

Audio Books are also being used for courseware for children. There are many websites available, through which the interested persons can buy their favourite books. However, a range of cheap books are also obtainable on these web portals.

Meet The New Microsoft MP3 Player

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Wednesday, September 1, 2010

For those of us who are old enough to remember the 8-track tape and the vinyl record, we can appreciate the advancements that playing music has made over the past years. In a blink of an eye we went from large records to small discs; and now, playing music wherever we are rarely requires more than a tiny piece of equipment that can easily fit into our shirt pocket or slip into our briefcase. The MP3 player has utterly transformed the way in which we listen to music. And savvy companies know that in order to stay competitive they have to get in the game. So it’s no wonder that Microsoft has entered the world of this technologically advanced portable music with the Microsoft MP3 player.

An MP3 player plays recorded music that you have stored on the system through the downloading of CDs or the purchase and download of music through online resources. The MP3 technology literally compresses audio files into its smallest size without compromising sound quality. The result of the compression is enough room to store – in some cases, depending on the MP3 player – up to thousands of songs. Better still, the MP3 player is a portable unit often no bigger than a pack of playing cards and can be connected to your car, headphones, or portable speakers to enjoy music anywhere.

Until now, Apple’s iPod has cornered the market in the world of MP3 players, offering a variety of models that complement Apple’s comprehensive online resources. In an effort to level the playing field, the new Microsoft MP3 player – the Zune – has been launched for a waiting public.

This new Microsoft MP3 player promises to further revolutionize the world of music through a variety of high-end offerings previously unseen in the market of MP3 players. With larger storage, a bigger, brighter screen, the ability to share music from Zune to Zune, and a built-in FM radio, the Microsoft MP3 player has greater functionality that its closest competitors to date.

Like Apple and its iPod, Microsoft understands that in order for the Microsoft MP3 player to be its most successful it must offer comprehensive and convenient online resources for users. For instance, the ability for users to transfer music to and from each other is handled through the Zune online marketplace where members can share their favorite tunes.

In addition to storing all your favorite songs, the Microsoft MP3 player also offers video capabilities, allowing users to download video content onto their Zune and enjoy it on its 3-inch LCD screen anywhere they are.

With the ability to enjoy the Microsoft MP3 player anywhere and everywhere, users are sure to enjoy this new member in the MP3 marketplace.

"A Sense of Urgency" by Don Bongaards, Reader Review

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Tuesday, August 31, 2010

The world has always been our playground, or so we’ve been told from a rather young age….but how often do you think about tomorrow? I don’t mean the day after today, I mean the tomorrow of future generations? Will the world as we know it be here in all its glory and splendor? Or will it only survive as a distant memory held in the hearts and minds of former youth?

In “A Sense of Urgency” by Don Bongaards, you are exposed to the realities of the energy crisis as it exists today. Without the proper preparations, it is made abundantly clear that we will soon be facing a shortage of our non-renewable resources on a magnitude we can barely begin to comprehend. We’ve all seen recent moves to “greener” products and although every little bit helps, the larger, more widespread effects have yet to be felt. One field that has just begun to be adapted to this new lifestyle is that of the transportation industry. Be honest, we almost all have at least one car in our households….how many of them are hybrids? Many of us would love to be able to get one of these vehicles and do our part, but unfortunately in our minds, the cost to our own pockets still outweighs that of the effects on the environment.

To aid in conquering these obstacles, many forms of fuel resources have and are being looked into. These include everything from oil sands, to fission nuclear, and even methane gas. Although many of these options have their pros and cons, one that is just starting to be understood is hydrogen. HINDENBURG! Admit it, it is the first thing that came to your mind, and if not, good for you, you are already thinking like a conservationist. The Hindenburg disaster was massive…massively deceptive. It wasn’t the lightning strike igniting the hydrogen that caused it to go up in flames. The lightning actually ignited the paint coating on the exterior of the “blimp” and then eventually spread to the gas within. The fact that it was filled with hydrogen actually aided in the largest part of the fire burning out quickly as the gas escaped into the atmosphere whereas the gasoline fires continued to burn for many hours on the ground.

Hydrogen has come a long way from the days of old, but are we ready to use it as a portable power source? According to Mr. Bongaards, we are. Advances have been made to this technology which would allow it to be created for no more than, in fact in many cases less than, your average gas fill up of today. The suggested method of use has it being made into a liquefied form for easier transport to centralized stations where certified technicians would fill up your vehicle of choice. The options for that said vehicle would be almost limitless as the new smaller tank designs would allow for a “skateboard” design chassis that allows the owner to choose a new body design on a whim. With further research, fill up stations could eventually be making their own fuel for their locations, or even move to hydrogen in gaseous form.

If you are ready to learn about the fuel options of tomorrow today, take a moment to read this eye-opening book and see what scientific advances may have in store for the coming years. Who knows….if a change is made effectively to the transportation industry, the effects may trickle down to other areas and provide for a greener tomorrow.

How to Get Free Audio Books

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Tuesday, August 31, 2010

The only purpose of the following lines is to help you get free audio books – free downloadable audio books and free audio books in general. Although there are some illegal ways we can think of to get free audio books, we will mention only the legal ones:

1. Free trials: There are some online shops which offer a free trial agreement, meaning you pay nothing or you can get your money back if you are dissatisfied with the products you get. The free trial agreement could be found for audio book cd and for downloadable audio books. Getting free
audio books by this method is quite easy and could be down in no time. However, there are some cons:
First, we believe there might be an ethical problem knowing from the beginning that no money is going to be paid for the product and that the online audio book service will be used to get a free audio book.
Secondly, not all audio books are offered for the free trial. Therefore, you might get free audio books but not the ones you looked for.
The last con is that some of the free trial periods are too short to listen to the audio book. Therefore, you get free audio books but have no time to listen to them.

2. File sharing services: There are numerous file sharing services on the net (Most use p2p technologies) that allow downloading files for free. We have founded more than 100 free audio books ready to download from these sites. However, it took us a lot of time to find them and the bandwidth rate was slow.

3. Search engines: You could find lots of free audio books by just searching for the right sites. Look for the small sits by typing the exact title you want and the phrase: “free audio book”. For example, if you are looking for an Harry Potter audio book just type : “Harry Potter” + “Free audio book”.

4. Markets – you can find audio books to swap with other products in some flea markets and second hand shops.

To sum up, there are no free presents. Although, there are ways to get free audio books, we think it is better to pay a couple of bucks for online audio book rental services – the worthwhile method of getting nearly free audio books.

5 Reasons Why Audio Books Are Better Than Paper Books

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Saturday, August 28, 2010

Audio books have gone crazy in popularity in the last couple of years. The technology involved, number of titles published added to the realization of the benefits that audio books can offer have combined to bring them very much into the mainstream as a genuine alternatives to paper back or hard back books. Indeed in many situations they offer much more than a traditional book could, for example, you can’t learn a language from a paper book while walking the dog can you? Of course not, but with an audio book you can!

So it’s no surprise that people are going mad for audio books. Here are just a few of the advantages that audio books have over normal hardcover or paperback books:

1) You can make incredibly constructive use of dead time. Time that would be otherwise impossible to fill with a normal book. For example, listen to a section of a hyper motivational audiobook while on the way to work.

You’ll not only learn but also save the time spent reading such a book. More than that though, a book is a passive device that you have to draw information out of.

An audio book by contrast pushes it at you. In the example of motivational audio books that’s a massive advantage as you can get the worlds best motivators giving you a pre work pep talk every day. That will, I absolutely guarantee you, energize you for the day ahead.

2) Audio books are much more cost effective and environment friendly than hardback and paperbacks. Very simply they don’t need trees to be cut down and greenhouse gases released to produce them.

3) With mp3 player functions such as mid track resume, bookmarking or simple visual chapter selection you can flip through them easily and quickly. Pick up where you left off or find a place easily again just like that.

4) You can listen to an audio book when it’s dark (example – walking the dog at night when you have no lights). So, with an audio book you can still ‘read’ no matter what the time or situation. I find them great when out fishing at night when you don’t want to use a light but do want to have a book going.

5) Get the kids to sleep easier – With an audio book, unlike a normal book you can simply play it for them until they fall asleep. Plus with audio books specifically for children the narrator(s) are expert actor/speakers trained to read children’s books so they make them loads of fun and then there are extras like the sound effects that really bring it to life better than you can (sorry to say but it’s true!)

So why not go and check out some audiobooks today and find out for yourself how useful and how fun they are. There are loads of free audio books as well so you can test the water for free as well.

How to Import Free Audio Books MP3 Files to an iPod File

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Saturday, August 21, 2010

There is a newer audio format available for free audio book downloads. It is an MP3 CD. Many of today’s new CD players are able to handle this format, but some of the older players do not. What makes this format so great for audio books is the data is compressed in an MP3 format.

What does this mean for you? This means you will get often get your free audio books downloaded onto one MP3 CD, instead of many like traditional MP3 files. The sound quality is somewhat reduced, especially for music, but the low resolution of these CD’s is higher than you need for spoken word to sound terrific.

Here are the following steps to convert your MP3 CD audio books into a file format you can listen to on an iPod. (These instructions will work for an iPod 5 or 6)
Check to see that you iTunes import settings are correct for an audio book.

You can do this by going into the Preferences/Importing section and be sure you have the settings for spoken word. Next, insert the MP3 CD and find it on “My Computer”. Using Windows Explorer, open the correctly titled CD and find the ‘playlist.m3u’ file. Double click the file to open it with your iTunes. Your audio book will probably begin playing as iTunes start importing the file. Hit the pause button to stop the playback.

Listening to the book now would be interrupted when you go through the next few steps. Let iTunes finish importing your file. It could take a little while to finish, but al least you don’t have to swap out CD’s to import all of the audio book.

Be sure your audio book tracks have the title of the book in the file name. Search for the title in the iTunes search field. You want to see a window showing all of the imported files and nothing more. Select all of those files or tracks for your audio book.

Click on the “Advanced menu” and choose “convert selection to AAC”. This will convert all of those large files to an AAC field, which will save you a good deal of disk space. This again may take some time. When you are done, you will have duplicated all those tracks from your audio book.

While this does not finish your process, it has duplicated the MP3 audio books download files to iPod files.

Sean O’Casey – The Gifted Irish Playwright

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Thursday, August 19, 2010

Although Sean O’Casey’s later plays have never received fully satisfactory productions, his reputation as a dramatist rests on his earlier work, notably Juno and the Paycock (1925) and The Plough and the Stars (1926), staged at the Abbey.

Cock-a-Doodle Dandy (1949), a romantic extravaganza written in O’Casey’s seventieth year, is a possible exception. Because of his unabashed love of melodramatic devices, and particularly because of his self-taught reflections of the Bible, Shakespeare, and Dion Boucicault, O’Casey has been regarded with some justice as Synge’s opposite.

An urban positivist in contrast with the sophisticated, well-read Bohemian, he is deeply committed to the power of impassioned, idiomatic speech to reform society. His seething resentments are spewed upon a puritanical Catholic clergy, the narrow-minded petite bourgeois, and the De Valerian government supported by those twin pillars.

However, as O’Casey’s rebellious quest for identity (reflected by two name changes) fixed on the craft and vocation of a writer, a double-layered personality came into view. Long before the Abbey produced The Shadow of a Gunman in 1923 when O’Casey was nearly middle-aged; his romanticism reflected a self which was essentially passionate, optimistic, and rebellious. Alluding to Bernard Shaw’s The Doctor’s dilemma, a character proclaims his entrancement by the might of design, the mystery of color, and the belief in the redemption of all mankind.

By the early 1890s, Sean and his older brother, Archie, carried out performances of plays by Dion Boucicault and William Shakespeare in the family home. Sean also took a minor role in Boucicault’s The Shaughraun in the Mechanics’ Theatre, which put up on what was to be the place of the Abbey Theatre.

Learn How to Astral Project Using MP3s

By Ted Brass - Last updated: Thursday, August 19, 2010

Learning how to astral project is often quite a challenging task, and many people find it very difficult to get consistent and satisfying results on their first attempts.

The truth is, astral projection is not supposed to be easy. It is a powerful ancient skill that only some people can do on their first try, which means for the rest of us we will probably need a little help or guidance to give us the confidence we need along the way.

Most of the time people will choose either an astral projection mp3 or a detailed online course/e-book to enable them in their quest to start astral projecting. The way that mp3s can help someone astral project is really quite simple.

To use the mp3 you put on your headphones and listen to the sounds and voices as it describes and guides you into the right state of mind to start astral projecting. Here is a really good example of an Astral Projection Mp3, because it will alter your brain wave cycles.

The truth is, creating an hypnagogic state (this is the state of mind you must reach first in order to astral project) is essential, and can be very difficult to do on your own. The mp3s are especially helpful to get you to the right state of mind the first time around so that you know what it should feel like.

To use an online course or e-book is another good recommendation for a few reasons. Firstly, it might be tough to find a fully comprehensive guide about learning to astral project at the local bookstore (it is a rather odd topic for some people). Secondly, if you buy an e-book you can start right away because all you have to do is download it. Thirdly, there are some e-books out there that are very comprehensive and cover just about everything you could imagine about how to astral project.
